Most definitely. Asbestos for flooring? Who thought of this? Somebody punch that guy! I guess since there were not that many options available back then. And since the innovation of plastics and polypropylene there have been many new ways to do wooden flooring. Deck tiles made from Ipe and other woods are a much better solution than asbestos. Plus it is a Green way to use materials that would normally be going to waste. Wooden floor tiles also come from FSC Certified and Sustainable Forestry farms in different parts of the world. Say "No" to asbestos! Use wood.

Wow! It's a good thing I saw this blog post in time. We are just about to take up the tile in another room and my husband and I have been thinking it could be asbestos. We were told it was okay to rip it up because it doesn't get in the air, and I was wondering "well what about small fibers coming off of it?"

Thank you so much!

asbestos is a real problem in places where houses having asbestos are torn down.

These fumes go into the air and are a health hazard for everyone in the near vicinity

There should be laws that deal with minimizing those hazards

What i find odd is that the United States has not banned the use of asbestos. Most other countries i.e. Japan, Europe, Australia have banned the use of it.
