I dislike plastic furniture, as imho it simply doesn't fit to most of the gardens apart form very modern ones. I believe wooden furniture can turn any garden into something really special.

I have been a big fan of hardwood furniture for a long time. Seeing as I work with hardwood floors it is only natural. I am suprised about the value of the Teak wood though. I have never worked with teak, but your post has sparked my interest. I am going to be looking for some teak furniture now. Thanks.

I agree that plastic furniture is a great substitute but nothing appeals to me like wood. And, properly taken care of it will last a long time. Guess it all depends on the eye of the beholder. :-)

I love the rattan look and its seems to be just the ticket for our Canadian winters.

While it's true that wooden furniture is quite long lasting, it's also true that wood looses it's appeal after a certain time (especially under hard weather circumstances). Plastic furniture (which can be made to appear like traditional wooden furniture, rattan, teak etc.) however doesn't face these problems: it's weather proof and one can leave it outside 365 days a year without any problems. Maybe not that environment-friendly, but still a very good alternative to traditional outdoor furniture.
